sometimes, no advice is good advice...

i have to say, when the present takes a turn towards memory lane, i'm gonna miss it. very very much. yes, the workload's enough to give any zen master a run for his yen, but the company i found here makes the whole experience pleasurably memorable. i've said it before, but i'll say it again: this place is like a nucleus of good company. i may not fully understand it, but it seems the dynamics of this cohort is fab, well... at least amongst the people that i get the good fortune to know. and partly because of this, i am dreading my impending 10-week practice. cos this signifies the end of our term in school. one thing's for sure, the time there's gonna pass by twice as slowly while the work piles on twice as much.

the lack of my trusty (and now comatose...R.I.P) laptop and groupworks ensures that i return home at 10 almost every day this week. and precisely because of this, the jogging has to be conducted late at night recently.

now if you know me, you'd agree that i am by no means, miss lara croft. not in the deepest recesses of my mind, not in my wildest dream, not by a long shot. knowing that, you could then imagine the amount of courage that i'd have to muster just to cajole myself to run past those big trees with their looming shadows and quiet, fragrant lanes late at night. once the running starts of course, it isn't too hard to forget about all these extraneous details and concentrate on just putting one foot in front of the other and well... breathe.

unless of course, you have a pesky nyonya on bicycle, tailing you at some point and reminding her child???/grandchild?? (who was btw, perched precariously and holding on for her dear life at the back seat of the bicycle) all the different reasons why girls (read: yours truly) shouldn't be out walking alone on late, quiet nights.. As you would have it, out come stories of vampires lurking in the dark (Q:"what's vampire, amma?" .... A: "oh, vampires come out and suck your blood") and "ghosts on trees", and "bad people come and kidnap you" and all other timely reasons that she (no doubt) cook up along the way.

@#%$@%&!!! wah... thanks ah nyonya. just the kinda encouragement i needed; me being the gusto lara croft and all.
.........NOT!

honestly, all i wanted to do then was to kick her off the bicycle. but it was rather unbecoming of someone in my line to be seen doing that, esp. with the little girl on board. (and besides, i didn't want my laces to get caught between the wheels-so unglam). i also thought of returning her a timely favour by giving free lecture about how dangerous it is to perch the little girl on a bicycle like that.

.......... the alternative of cos, was to transform into some b-grade superhero like the flash (minus the suffocating rib-squeezing, latex costume) and speed up so i could complete my rounds faster and then scram home. it comes as no surprise of course, that that's exactly what i did. *shakes head and sigh*
